| Chattar Manzil |
| Near the Hazrat Begum park, on the banks of river Gomti is a huge building called the Chattar Manzil. This building was started by Nawab Gaziuddin Haider but he died before this structure could be completed. It was later completed by his son Nasiruddin Haider. Chattar manzil has got big drawing room, cellars and tunnels. Today this building is being used by the central medicine research people for their use. The best view of Chattar Manzil is from the other side of the Gomti. |
| Charbagh station |
Overpowering in dimensions yet aesthetically designed, Charbagh Railway Station was built in 1914 and combines the best of Rajasthani and Mughal architecture. It is also called the Sheshtirtha. On this hillock is built the Alam Gir Masjid. This mosque was built by Sultan Ali Shah Kuli Khan, the governor of Avadh during Aurangzeb's rein. People also say that this city was built by Lakshman, the younger brother of legendary Ram. At that time the city was known as Lakhnawati. |
| Bara Imambara |
Bara Imambara,
was buillt by Nawab Asafuddaula in 1784 A.D. when Avadh was gripped by severe famine. It shows a blend Mughal and Rajput schools of building and a shade of the Gothic. The excellence of this structure lies in its extensive interior. The structure took six years to be completed. | Shah Najaf Imambara |
This white-domed structure derives its name from the town of Najaf, about 200 km south of Baghdad where the saint Hazrat Ali is buries. It is situated on the right bank of the Gomti, In this mausoleum are buried the remains of Ghazi-ud-din Haider and his wives, including Mubarak Mahal, his European wife. The entrance leads to a beautiful garden. The silver tomb of Ghazi-ud-din Haider lies in the centre of the building and is flanked by the more imposing silver and gold tomb of Mubarak Mahal on one side, and another tomb on the other. |
| Saddat Ali Tomb |
In front of the famous Begum Hazrat Mahal park are the tombs of Saddat Ali and his Begum Khurshidzadi. These tombs are built in the Italian style and are marvels of architecture. The tombs were built by Gaziuddin Haidar, the son of Saddat Ali. The lush green lawns around the tomb were witness to fierce rebel fighting at the time of the 1857 revolt. |
| Jama Masjid |

of the Hussainabad Imambara is the great Jama Masjid with its two
minarets and three domes. Construction was started by Muhammad Ali Shah
but completed after his death. This is one of the few mosques in India
not open to non-Muslims.
